Why Paul Sculthorpe and Jimmy Gittins?
Paul was one of the greatest rugby league players of the last twenty years, he achieved levels of playing that few in the world could match and was the only player in rugby league history to win the Man of Steel award in consecutive seasons.
Much of Paul's success came from his mental toughness. He received personal coaching in Neuro Linguistic programming (NLP) techniques during his career and used the lessons he learned to drive himself to unprecedented levels of success.
In 2007 Paul came back from years of injury and 6 months of rehab after knee surgery. He stunned his surgeon by returning to fitness months ahead of schedule so that he could play in the World Club Championships against the Aussie superstar club The Brisbane Broncos.
Ahead of the game Paul hadn't kicked a rugby ball for 6 months. Yet in his first game back from injury, in the World Club Championships, in front of a packed Rebok stadium and a large TV audience he agreed to take the kicks at goal to give his club the best chance of winning.
The mental pressure and doubts should have been massive, to make matters worse the first kick he attempted couldn’t have been more difficult.
